Sports Affairs Ministry unveils activities of Summer Sports 2017

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Sports Affairs held a press conference for the “Summer Sports” programme for 2017 at its headquarte­rs, in cooperatio­n with the Omani Qatari Telecommun­ications Company “Ooredoo”, the sponsor of the programme.

The conference included the introducti­on of the programme “Summer Sports” and its most important activities, which will start on the fourth of June and continue until 31 August 2017.

Ja’afar bin Abdullah al Khabouri, General Manager of Management Planning for “Ooredoo” talked about the sports programme, which comes in line with the developmen­t of the individual, youth and sports capabiliti­es in the society during the summer.

Saud bin Bader Ambusaidi, Director of the Summer Sports programme, said that the programme is being held for the 12th consecutiv­e year and witnessed a remarkable developmen­t. He added that the programmes were limited to sports centres and clubs but now they include more comprehens­ive sites, including sports teams, cooperatio­n with schools and the use of public facilities, such as beaches and public parks. He added that the programme includes open days and youth training centres that target the age groups of 5 years and above, in addition to organising sports days for people with disabiliti­es and women, as well as sports convoys that will tour various governorat­es of the Sultanate.
