Fresh Syria talks likely next month

Reports of children being abused at some nurseries in the Sultanate has shocked many parents.

A nursery in Muscat, for instance, was shut last May following complaints of frequent violations.

The Ministry of Social Developmen­t, which oversees nurseries in the Sultanate, said the violations were discovered by its children affairs specialist­s during periodic visits.

The nursery was issued a warning prior to its closure. Yet, it took no steps to fix the problem.

According to a woman, whose two daughters were under the care LOSBY GODS, Norway: A new round of Syria peace talks could happen next month in Geneva, the United Nations envoy said on Wednesday.

Staffan de Mistura told reporters during at a conference in Norway that fresh negotiatio­ns aimed at ending Syria’s six-yearold civil war could start at the end of the holy month of Ramadhan.

The UN has mediated peace talks between Syrian government and rebel delegation­s for several years to little avail. But a parallel peace process involving Russia, Iran and Turkey, agreed in May to establish four safe zones across Syria where flights would be banned and aid deliveries ensured.

The zones have ushered in a marked decrease in fighting.

But that plan, agreed in the Kazakh capital Astana between some of the war’s major players, has stalled as sponsor nations disagreed over the precise outlines and which countries should send in forces to police the zones. A new round of Astana talks had been scheduled for this week but were postponed indefinite­ly. of the nursery, children were “subjected to abuse and rough treatment” by babysitter­s.

“One day, a man approached me near the nursery and asked if I found anything suspicious in the nursery. He said his son was abused by nannies and there were bruises on his body,” said Um Haneen.

The man told her he had filed a case against the nursery. “I could not believe it since I hadn’t come across anything unusual.”
