Three held for selling liquor, another three for fraud

MUSCAT: The Directorat­e of Inquiries and Criminal Investigat­ion at North Al Batinah Governorat­e Police Command arrested three Asians on charges of possessing and selling liquor in the Wilayat of Al Khabourah.

An official with Royal Oman Police (ROP) said that the police seized more than 3,000 bottles of liquor from the house of the defendants. The defendants were referred to the public prosecutio­n for completion of the investigat­ion.

The Department of Customs in Al Buraimi Governorat­e foiled an attempt to smuggle chewing tobacco into the Sultanate.

An official with Royal Oman Police (ROP) said the customs personnel found more than 25 kg of chewing tobacco and a bottle of liquor concealed in the bus. Three held for fraud The Department of Inquiries and Inquiries and Criminal Investigat­ion at the Al Suwaiq Police Station arrested three Arab nationals on charges of theft and fraud in the Wilayat of Al Suwaiq.

Earlier, an expat working at a cellphone shop reported to the police that two persons of an Arab nationalit­y bought two mobile phones from his store but they refused to pay the money and fled along with the third defendant who was waiting for them in the car. Police launched an investigat­ion into the incident and managed to arrest the defendants in a hotel in Seeb and seized a number of cellphones and cash.
