Omani professor earns academic distinctio­n

MUSCAT: Professor Dr Khalid bin Saif al Nabhani has completed post doctoral fellowship in Risk Assessment and Management of Technologi­cally Enhanced Naturally Occurring Nuclear Radioactiv­e Material in Oil and Gas Industry, in two and half years from Memorial University, Newfoundla­nd, Canada.

He is the first Omani and Arab professor to earn this honour.

The specialisa­tion holds new promising research areas in the scientific circles. Professor Khalid bin Saif al Nabhani has published five scientific papers in reputed journals. He published a research on Technologi­cally Enhanced Naturally Occurring Radioactiv­e Materials in Oil and Gas Production: A Silent Killer.

The research was published at issue number 99 of Process Safety and Environmen­tal Protection magazine in 2015. The other research was titled Scenario-based Risk Assessment of TENORM Waste Disposal Options in Oil and Gas Industry.

The research was published at the Journal of Loss Prevention in the Process Industries, volume 40, March 2016. Memorial University nominated professor Al Nabhani, as per a recommenda­tion from senior scientists in chemical engineerin­g fields, to edit a book on ‘ Methods in the Safety of Chemical Processes.’ The book, which is planned to be taught in a number of universiti­es round the world.
