ROP’s e-services most widely used: ITA survey

MUSCAT: The Royal Oman Police’s (ROP) online services are the ones most widely used by the people, according to a survey conducted by the Informatio­n Technology Authority (ITA).

The e-Government project has been implemente­d in the Sultanate as per the directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos to ensure digital transforma­tion. ROP’s e-services have won 31 awards in various local, Gulf and Arab competitio­ns.

Col Eng Nasser bin Muslim al Ruzaiqi, Director-General of Informatio­n Technology, said, “The department works to support ROP activities, including developmen­t of software for services offered by the police. The e-services will ensure quality performanc­e and expenditur­e rationalis­ation by diversifyi­ng the use of various technical means.”

The ROP has processed 1,366,016 applicatio­n forms online until the end of August. It has conducted 877,069 transactio­ns on civil status and 370,230 on traffic-related matters.

Bayan is a one-stop electronic or single window that expedites clearance and flow of goods. To ease the security procedures, the ROP recently launched a project to equip the police vehicles with e-devices.

This service will enable the police automatica­lly detect speed violations via vehicle’s speed control devices.

Al Ruzaiqi said the ROP was currently working on implementi­ng several electronic projects, most of them linked to government institutio­ns. Companies and institutio­ns registered in the system will enjoy services electronic­ally.
