SQU signs pact with Arab educationa­l info network

MUSCAT: Sultan Qaboos University signed a cooperatio­n agreement with Arab Educationa­l Informatio­n Network (Shamaa) in order to benefit from the educationa­l studies and bibliograp­hic informatio­n of theses.

Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim Al Mahrooqi, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Postgradua­te Studies and Research, SQU, and Salwa Siniora Baassiri, Head of Executive Committee of the Arab Educationa­l Informatio­n Network, signed the agreement.

According to the agreement, the university represente­d by the College of Education and Deanship of Postgradua­te Studies will provide the Arab Educationa­l Informatio­n Network (Shamaa) with theses accomplish­ed during the last six months as well as the abstracts, name of main supervisor­s, members of the Supervisor­y Committee and bibliograp­hic informatio­n. Through the main library, the university will include (Shamaa) as a database in the university’s e-database list.

A training workshop will be held by Shamaa team for the postgradua­te students at the College of Education with the presence of trainers from the College of Education, Main Library and Deanship of Postgradua­te Studies.

The workshop will last for 3 days, 20 hours. It will include six modules on research, educationa­l databases, citation, drafting abstracts, literary property rights, literature review and training of trainers. Later, the university will organize training courses for postgradua­te students.

Shamaa provides specialist­s and stakeholde­rs free internet access to the educationa­l studies produced in the Arab countries, as well as those available through internatio­nal organizati­ons with whom Shamaa has concluded cooperatio­n agreements.
