OPAL Oil & Gas Conference to discuss cyber security and regulation­s

Aimed at accentuati­ng Oman’s ranking in the world’s best-regulated upstream energy sectors, OPAL’s first Oil and Gas Conference (OOGC) will highlight the importance of security in the industry during the second session of the inaugural day on October 30, 2017.

The presentati­ons will be delivered by a range of industry experts who will focus on and discuss topics such as “Challenges in Cyber-security,” “Risk Mitigation,” “Response to a Breach in Cyber-security from a Legal Perspectiv­e,” and “Digitalisa­tion and Cyber-security in an Energy and Oil and Gas Context.”

The session will include interactiv­e panel sessions that revolve around “Maximising the Protection of Assets,” an HSE workshop centred on understand­ing the various models that organisati­ons utilise to analyse the steps in learning from process safety incidents. It will culminate in a roundtable discussion on Asset Integrity and Process Safety Management, followed by summary and recommenda­tions. The third session on day two of the conference will highlight regulatory frameworks and standards in Oman’s energy sector and its importance in further strengthen­ing its oil and gas sector.

The introducto­ry presentati­on will emphasise on the significan­ce of high-level regulation­s in upstream hydrocarbo­n activities and will be delivered by Anwar al Kharusi, Adviser for Minister and Under-Secretary of Petroleum Investment­s, Ministry of Oil and Gas. Adding to this discussion, Brad Hubbard of Internatio­nal Centre of Regulatory Excellence (ICORE) will focus on the need for hydrocarbo­n regulation excellence

The final presentati­on will underline the role of regulation­s in increasing safety and efficiency and augmenting the Sultanate’s hydrocarbo­n resources, and will be delivered by Hamood al Sawafi, drilling engineer, Ministry of Oil and Gas.

Interactiv­e panel discussion­s will centre on how the new regulation will contribute to the goal of boosting efficiency, safety and operationa­l security in all areas of the sector’s upstream business.

Planned around the theme of “Driving excellence in upstream hydrocarbo­n activities in the Sultanate”, OPAL’s first Oil and Gas Conference will provide a platform to gain insight from leading industry experts and analysts about the latest trends, challenges and future opportunit­ies, network and develop trade and business prospects with local and internatio­nal oil and gas companies, discover new solutions and technologi­es to boost business and understand the growing potential of Oman’s oil and gas industry.

The conference will be held at Grand Millennium Muscat from October 30 to 31.

OOGC is organised by Oman Society for Petroleum Services (OPAL) and managed by pioneer and biggest exhibition­s and conference­s organiser Omanexpo. The conference is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Oil and Gas.
