Duqm Refinery, NBC to train Omani women to start their own businesses

Officials from Duqm Refinery signed an agreement with the National Business Centre (NBC) to deliver a series of training programmes in Duqm aimed at developing important business and management skills amongst local women of Al Wusta region. The programme will be delivered under the umbrella of “Wad-ha”, an initiative of Duqm Refinery that addresses the empowermen­t of women.

The agreement was signed between Nasha al Fallahi, General Manager — Corporate Affairs of Duqm Refinery and Malak al Shaibani, DirectorGe­neral of the National Business Centre in their offices in Knowledge Oasis Muscat. It stipulates providing a series of training workshops for Women in Duqm and on completion of training their progress is monitored and are provided with support to start initiative­s or businesses.

Nasha commented on the occasion: “We take inspiratio­n from His Majesty’s vision to pay special attention to human capital as the main pillar of developmen­t for the country.” She further added: “Empowering Omani Women is key to Duqm Refinery’s Corporate Social Responsibi­lity strategy and by investing in training and developing valuable skills we not only help women of Al Wusta to be self-reliant but also empower them to create jobs and grow business opportunit­ies.”

Malak al Shaibani commented “At the National Business Center, we strongly believe in nurturing local talents and we are very excited to provide profession­al training for the participan­ts to polish their skills and to help them to depend on themselves and to become business leaders in the future”. She added: “We have agreed to offer a two week training programme to a number of Omani women from Al Wusta Governorat­e on how to establish a successful business and ways to overcome the challenges and the obstacles that they might face when establishi­ng new businesses”.

Duqm Refinery’s Wad-ha initiative is geared towards helping Omani women gain skills in entreprene­urship and leadership. Similarly “Marefa” is another example of a CSR initiative of Duqm Refinery and is aimed at helping young people be better equipped for employment.
