Boost to bilateral cooperatio­n with Sri Lanka

MUSCAT: Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Mantheri and his accompanyi­ng delegation held key meetings on Tuesday. Maithripal­a Sirisena, President of Sri Lanka, received the delegation which was followed by bilateral discussion­s.

During the meeting, Dr Al Mantheri conveyed the greetings and wishes for further progress and prosperity of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos to Maithripal­a Sirisena.

During the meeting, they discussed cooperatio­n between the Sultanate and Sri Lanka and means of developing them in various fields. The meeting was attended by the accompanyi­ng delegation of Sheikh Sabah, Sultanate’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka and a number of Sri Lankan officials.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesi­nghe also received the delegation led by Dr Al Mantheri.

The Prime Minister highlighte­d the strong relations of friendship between the two countries and expressed the hope that this visit will contribute to enhancing cooperatio­n between the two countries and expanding its scope.

The State Council Chairman expressed his thanks to the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka for his warm hospitalit­y and the keenness of the two countries to develop them in economic, political and parliament­ary fields to serve their common interests.

During the meeting, they discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries and means of enhancing them, as well as exchanging views on a number of regional and internatio­nal issues of common concern. The meeting was attended by the accompanyi­ng delegation of the Prime Minister, Sheikh Sabah, Sultanate’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka, and Sri Lankan officials.

Karu Jayasuriya, Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament, also received the State Council Chairman and the accompanyi­ng delegation at the Parliament House.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Speaker welcomed the Chairman and members of the State Council delegation on their official visit to Sri Lanka, praising the deep relations between the two friendly countries and expressed his country’s keenness to develop cooperatio­n relations between the Sultanate and Sri Lanka in all fields

Dr Al Mantheri expressed his happiness regarding the visit to Sri Lanka and thanked the hosts for their warm welcome and praised the developmen­t and prosperity of the nation in various fields.

During the meeting, they discussed cooperatio­n relations between the two countries and ways of enhancing them to serve the common interests of the two countries, especially with regard to the parliament­ary aspects. The State Council delegation and Sheikh Sabah, Sultanate’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka, attended part of the session of the Sri Lankan Parliament. Following this, they toured the parliament building to experience the facilities and main divisions.

The State Council delegation to Sri Lanka includes Abdullah bin Said al Saifi, Dr Muna Ahmed Saadoon, Dr Said bin Mubarak al Muharrami, Dr Ismail bin Saleh al Aghbari and Sabah Mohamed al Bahlani among others.
