MoSD holds seminar on volunteeri­sm

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Social Developmen­t, in collaborat­ion with the Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science (ONCECS) and the Islamic Educationa­l, Scientific and Cultural Organisati­on (ISESCO), on Tuesday organised the national seminal on volunteeri­sm and improving volunteeri­ng mechanisms for sustainabl­e developmen­t in coincidenc­e with the Omani Volunteers’ Day which falls on December 5 every year.

The seminar was presided over by Shaikh Mohammed bin Said al Kalbani, Minister of Social Developmen­t, and was attended by a number of officials and members of trade associatio­ns, Omani Women’s Associatio­n, researcher­s, academics and stakeholde­rs.

The seminar began with the ministry’s speech delivered by Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali, UnderSecre­tary, who noted that the seminar, organised in partnershi­p with ONCECS, clearly indicates the importance of constant cooperatio­n between the parties to make more achievemen­ts.

He underscore­d the importance of focusing on the educationa­l dimension and instilling the love of volunteeri­ng into children and successive generation­s.

The Sultan Qaboos Award for Volunteeri­ng which is marked on December 5 each year gives a boost to the voluntary work which constitute­s a major pillar of sustainabl­e developmen­t.
