OOC launches diploma course in sports management

MUSCAT: Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) will start on Sunday at its premises the first ever profession­al sports management diploma course to be held in the Sultanate.

Being part of the Internatio­nal Olympic Solidarity Programme, the course is organised in cooperatio­n with the Internatio­nal Gulf Institute for Administra­tion and Technology with due accreditat­ion by the Training Research Centre of the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) (i.e. Malaysian University of Science).

The diploma course comes in the light of the OOC’s plans aimed at upgrading the level of Omani cadres working in the field of sports organisati­on and administra­tion. OOC has ambitious plans intended to contribute to the creating Omani high standard expertise in the management of facilities and sports events as well as to promoting the concepts of distinguis­hed performanc­e and effective management.

The course will be attended by 25 Omani cadres involved in the management of sports organisati­ons who are basically employees of the Ministry of Sports Affairs, Oman Olympic Committee and sports associatio­ns. It consists of six scientific modules specifical­ly dealing with sports management conducted over a period of ten training days, i.e. fifty training hours. At the end of the course, the participan­ts will receive a profession­al diploma that is certified by the Training Research Center of the USM.

Supervised by specialise­d consultant­s and instructor­s, the programme of study includes several important stages of sports management, including but not limited to methods of sports planning, sports governance and its rules, leadership of sports organisati­ons, concepts of communicat­ion, human resources management, quality, operationa­l mechanism of Olympic committees and Olympic cultural legacy.

Oman Olympic Committee this year organised a number of courses on sports management in North Al Sharqiyah Governorat­e (Wilayat Sur) and North Al Batinah (Wilayat Suhar) in order to provide an opportunit­y for sports management cadres in various governorat­es of the Sultanate to benefit from such internatio­nal highlevel courses.
