AFTER HEAVY RAINS, A BRIEF RESPITE

Oman Meteorolog­y urged people to be vigilant during thundersto­rms, and not to cross wadis and to avoid low lying areas. Fishermen have been told not to venture into the sea along the coast of Sea of Oman.

Heavy rains have lashed most of the governorat­es in the past three days, which has led to the overflowin­g of wadis.

Liwa recorded a rainfall of 113 mm, Jabal Akhdar (76 mm), Shinas (63 mm) and Izki (47 mm).

According to the national multihazar­d early warning centre, Oman’s atmosphere will continue to be affected by convective clouds over Al Hajar mountains and surroundin­g areas, which may extend to the coastal areas of Oman Sea, associated with fresh winds, hail and runoffs of some wadis.

The sea state is expected to be moderate along the coastal areas with a maximum wave height of two metres, said the Met Office.
