Islamic banking and finance conference on Dec 20

MUSCAT: Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), represented by the College of Economics and Political Science, will organise in cooperation with the Islamic Research and Training Institute of the Islamic Development Bank the 8th International Islamic Banking and Finance Conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Al Irfan City under the patronage of Shaikh Nasser bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of the State’s Financial and Administrative Audit Institution.

The conference seeks to highlight the contribution of Islamic banks to financial stability, with special emphasis on recent developments in legal frameworks, supervision and risk management, and addressing some practical and operational issues related to risk management and current trends in financial innovation of banks and Islamic finance institutions.

The main theme of the conference is “The contribution of the Islamic Financial institution to Financial Stability and the Reduction of Systemic Risks” and the “Islamic Banking Industry in the Sultanate - Opportunities and Challenges”, “The Contemporary Risks of Financial Stability Arising from the Islamic Banking Model in an Integrated Financial System and a Comparative Regulatory Framework for Islamic Banks versus Traditional Banks ,” The Role of the Islamic Financial Stability Council in Designing the Framework and Promoting Regulatory Reforms of Islamic Banks in order to Enhance the Financial Stability of the Global Financial System with Systemic Risks.”

This conference is expected to contribute to policy makers and regulatory bodies to better understanding of the issues and challenges associated with financial stability and systemic risk in the Islamic financial system.
