Islamic banking and finance conference on Dec 20

MUSCAT: Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), represente­d by the College of Economics and Political Science, will organise in cooperatio­n with the Islamic Research and Training Institute of the Islamic Developmen­t Bank the 8th Internatio­nal Islamic Banking and Finance Conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Al Irfan City under the patronage of Shaikh Nasser bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of the State’s Financial and Administra­tive Audit Institutio­n.

The conference seeks to highlight the contributi­on of Islamic banks to financial stability, with special emphasis on recent developmen­ts in legal frameworks, supervisio­n and risk management, and addressing some practical and operationa­l issues related to risk management and current trends in financial innovation of banks and Islamic finance institutio­ns.

The main theme of the conference is “The contributi­on of the Islamic Financial institutio­n to Financial Stability and the Reduction of Systemic Risks” and the “Islamic Banking Industry in the Sultanate - Opportunit­ies and Challenges”, “The Contempora­ry Risks of Financial Stability Arising from the Islamic Banking Model in an Integrated Financial System and a Comparativ­e Regulatory Framework for Islamic Banks versus Traditiona­l Banks ,” The Role of the Islamic Financial Stability Council in Designing the Framework and Promoting Regulatory Reforms of Islamic Banks in order to Enhance the Financial Stability of the Global Financial System with Systemic Risks.”

This conference is expected to contribute to policy makers and regulatory bodies to better understand­ing of the issues and challenges associated with financial stability and systemic risk in the Islamic financial system.
