RO 2.7m aluminium cast factory opens in Suhar

JOINT VENTURE: Factory to produce bus bars required for aluminium smelters and electrolys­is plants

SOHAR: Oman Aluminium Cast Factory, a joint local and foreign venture with RO 2.7 million, was opened on Monday at Sohar Industrial Zone under the auspices of Dr Mohammed bin Hamad al Rumhi, Minister of Oil and Gas.

Shaikh Yahya bin Hilal al Maamari, Deputy General Manager of the Factory said that the factory will produce 25,000 tonnes per annum of high current bus bars required by Aluminium smelters and other electrolys­is plants.

He pointed out that 95 per cent of the company production will meet the needs of the markets in Bahrain, Iran and Republic of Vietnam.

He affirmed that the company has attached great interest to Omanisatio­n.

This is very clear from the fact that the Omanisatio­n rate is above 50 per cent. The factory also employs experience­d staff from various parts of the world as well.

‘Oman Aluminium Cast Factory has signed an agreement with Sohar Aluminium Company to purchase 20,000 tonnes of liquid aluminium per annum. The factory had started operation in February this year.

It also signed an agreement with Aluminium Bahrain BSC, Alba, to sell 13,000 tonnes of aluminium bars for $ 30 million.

About 70 per cent of the required quantity has been also supplied to Alba. Shaikh Muhanna bin Saif al Lamki, Governor of North Al Batinah, and a number of their excellenci­es, local officials and public attended the opening ceremony. — ONA
