Seminar on ‘Bidbid through history’ begins

BIDBID: The (Bidbid through History) seminar began on Monday under the patronage of Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Zahir al Hinai, State Adviser. The seminar is organised by the Literary Forum at the Ministry of Heritage and Culture in the series of seminars on Omani cities through which the researcher­s study the geography, history, personalit­ies and features of the modern Omani Renaissanc­e.

Shaikh Ahmed bin Saud al Siyabi, Secretary-General, of the Office of Fatwa at the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, said the seminar ‘Bidbid through history’ comes within the framework of the participat­ion of the Wilayat of Bidbid her sister wilayats in the governorat­es of the Sultanate in the honouring by the Literary Forum of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture to be a link in the series of seminars.

The wilayats have participat­ed in the making of Omani history and witnessed the major events.

Bidbid is a wilayat of longestabl­ished geographic­al origin and was mentioned when affected by the large flood that swept through large areas of Oman during the reign of Imam Al Salt bin Malik in 251 and this history shows the history of this wilayat and its cities.’

The wilayat of Bidbid is about 70 km away from the Governorat­e of Muscat. It is bordered by Samayil from the south, Dima W’ ttayeen to the east, and to the north by Muscat and also borders Al Hajar Mountains. The Fanja bridge is the emblem of the wilayat.

Bidbid attracts a lot of tourists for its tourism attraction­s like forts, towers like Bidbid famous Fort.

The wilayat of Bidbid is famous for folklore arts like Al Razha, Al Azi, and Al Maidan, in addition to other Omani famous arts.

The seminar, which will be held at Al Jawharah Hall in Bidbid, will discuss working papers on the geography and geology of Bidbid, the historical status of Bidbid, the scientific and literary life of Bidbid, the investment potential of Bidbid, Waqf in Bidbid, in the Renaissanc­e period and Bidbid in Omani press.
