MEDRC holds World Water Day celebrations
MUSCAT: March 22nd is UN Designated World Water Day during which events are held with a different theme every year. The World Water Day today seeks to bring water to the top of the agenda. This year’s theme ‘Nature for Water’ is an opportunity to highlight and understand naturebased solutions to current water challenges.
Commenting on this years event, MEDRC Center Director, Ciarán Ó Cuinn stated; “Each year, UN World Water Day focuses the world on the importance of water to human life, society and environment. At MEDRC the day is a big event and this year is no different.
MEDRC has awareness-raising planned walkathons to academic symposia, art competitions and exciting research challenges as part of the celebrations.
MEDRC Water Research will mark the occasion with a series of events and celebrations, planned to take place at their headquarters, in Al Hail, Muscat. The day will be split into two parts with youth water celebratory events taking place in the morning and an academic symposium reserved for the afternoon.
Janab Al Sayyida Basma Fakhri al Said, Founder of Whispers of Serenity, will attend the morning event as guest of honour. The other highlights of the celebrations include Walk for Water where wheelchair bound Abdullah al Salmi will accompany well renowned walker Hilmi al Kindi on 20km walkathon, student art competition held in collaboration with Ourplanet International School, launch of Young Omani Water Researchers Award, 2018, alumni lecture series and MOU signing with Caledonian College of Engineering and finally hosting of Sunglacier challenge in collaboration with SQU.
