Z-corp backs handball associatio­n to hold school championsh­ip

MUSCAT: To propagate passion for sports among school students, the Zubair Corporatio­n LLC (Z-corp) has extended its support to the Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championsh­ip being held across Oman.

While the first match of the championsh­ip was kicked off in Sohar recently, the other championsh­ip matches will be held in Nizwa on March 26 and Sur on April 1.

Twelve teams and 256 players from various schools will participat­e in the championsh­ip.

Suleiman bin Abaad school emerged winners of the Sohar leg of the championsh­ip. Ahmed bin Said school finished runners-up, Khalfan bin Jamil school won the third place and Abdullah bin Al Bahsar School finished fourth.

Mitsubishi Oman, represente­d by General Automotive Company, organised the competitio­n in associatio­n with the Oman Handball Associatio­n (OHA). General Automotive Company, which is the official distributo­r for Mitsubishi vehicles in Oman is a subsidiary of the Zubair Automotive Group, the flagship enterprise of the Z-corp.

Dr Said bin Ahmed al Shehri, OHA Chairman, said, “We are extremely grateful that a group like The Zubair Corporatio­n is supporting our associatio­n. Z-corp’s commitment and support has given an enormous boost to developmen­t of sports and associated clubs in the country. Inspiring school students’ participat­ion in such tournament­s will make a positive difference to their lives. Such championsh­ips will encourage and highlight good team spirit among students. I wish more private sector institutio­ns contribute to popularisi­ng sports which can help sports associatio­ns identify young talents to represent Oman at internatio­nal events.”

Zuwaina al Azri, communicat­ions manager, Zubair Automotive Group said, “In the framework of enhancing public and private sector partnershi­p, Z-corp has been supporting all the activities of Oman Handball Associatio­n since we signed an agreement in October 2015. Z-corp has played a key role in sponsoring and developing sports in the Sultanate by supporting profession­al and amateur sports organisati­on, sports clubs and competitio­ns. We have a strong commitment to supporting sports team, clubs and organisati­ons across the Sultanate. These school students are Oman’s future and we are delighted to support them.”
