RO 160 basic pay for hiring Filipino domestic workers

Filipinos recruited for Oman should have a basic salary of RO 160 for domestic workers and more than RO 160 for skilled workers, said a statement from the Philippine Overseas Labour Office at the office of the Labour Attache.

“Workers should be entitled to food allowance of RO 30, accommodat­ion allowance of RO 80 and transporta­tion allowance of RO 20 and one-day leave per week,” the statement said.

The statement was issued to the sponsors/employers and the foreign recruitmen­t agencies (FRAS).

The statement says passports should be kept with the worker unless voluntaril­y entrusted to persons or institutio­n, preferably with FRAS.

Workers are entitled to a paid leave (day off/rest day) of one day per week.

Sponsors must pay a month’s basic salary of not less than $400 or RO 160 for domestic workers, and more than RO 160 for skilled workers.

The sponsor must provide decent food or its equivalent of food allowance of not less than RO 30.

The sponsor must also provide a suitable and safe accommodat­ion, or its equivalent accommodat­ion allowance of not less than RO 80.

The sponsor must also provide free transporta­tion from the worker’s accommodat­ion to the worksite and vice versa, or an equivalent transporta­tion allowance of not less than RO 20.

The sponsor must provide health and accident insurance of the worker valid throughout the period of the working visa/contract.
