Asfandyar XI, Indian School Sohar win titles

MUSCAT: The final day of the FRIENDI Mobile Summer Cricket Cup organised by Jazz Boys Cricket Club saw a large turn up at the Ghubra power plant ground on May 4.

The day began with very hot weather and the matches that played out too didn’t disappoint the crowd. All the quarterfin­al matches to the finals were played intensely and fought out till the last ball.

The highly popular tournament was mainly sponsored by FRIENDI mobile, and co-sponsored by Khurshid Trading, Greenfield Logistics, Virgin Megastore, Oman Insecticid­es & Air freshener and The Body Shop. Prizes were as follows: Champions trophy plus cash award and gift hampers for all players, Runners up trophy plus cash award and gift hampers for all players.

The Best Batsman, Best Bowler, Best Fielder, Maximum Sixes, Best Catch, Best wicket-keeper took away a FRIENDI mobile SIM Starter pack with free 1 year Internet and high value recharge voucher, Man of the Series — Home theatre from LG, Best Dressed team — colourful trophy from FRIENDI mobile.

The guests of honour for the gala prize distributi­on ceremony were Joseph Rajan, Marketing Operations Manager at FRIENDI mobile, Madhu Jesrani, General Secretary of Oman Cricket, Srikumar, Director of Greenfield Logistics and Vaishali Jesrani, women’s coordinato­r of Oman national team. Vinu Mathew, Jazz Boys Club — Organiser, congratula­ted the winners and thanked all the sponsors for their continued support. He also thanked the scorers, the umpires, the commentato­rs and helpers for a wonderful job done and a tournament organized really well. He also appreciate­d the spirit of the girls who stayed back till all the awards were given in the scorching sun even after playing the final match.

MOM: Karthik (Strikers Oman) QF 1 – Michael XI (100 for 7) lost to Asfandyar XI (101 for 3). MOM: Mani But (Asfandyar XI) QF 2 – Bisya Lions 104 (all out) beat Klair XI (82 all out). MOM: Ijaz (Bisya Lions) QF 3 – Strikers Oman (90 for 5) lost to Asad XI (93 for 3). MOM: Kashi But (Asad XI) QF 4 – Muscat Steel (90 for 3) lost to Rising Stars (91 for 1). MOM: Ashok Achary (Rising Stars) First Semi – Bisya Lions (81 for 8) lost to Asad XI (82 for 6). MOM: Mavia (Asad XI) Second Semi – Asfandyar XI (123 for 6) beat Rising Stars (73 all out). MOM: Nadeem Jayasurya (Asfandyar XI) Final – Asfandyar XI (111 for 2) beat Asad XI (97 for 3).
