Social panel discusses privatisat­ion with sports club officials

MUSCAT: The Social Committee of the State Council discussed on Tuesday with two club officials the study on ‘the reality of services provided by sports clubs and their access to community service.’

The 13th committee meeting, chaired by Dr Hamed bin Sulaiman al Salmi, Committee Head, was held in the presence of committee members and the secretaria­t staff. The committee hosted Saleem bin Ali al Hakmani, President of the Wusta Club and Saeed bin Nasser al Hajri, Vice-president of Bidiya Club.

During the meeting, the committee reviewed the prominent services provided by sports clubs in the sports, cultural and social fields, and the main challenges and difficulti­es facing the work of clubs and proposals for solutions for the developmen­t and upgrading of clubs to meet the aspiration­s and needs of society.

The committee reviewed the future insights of the clubs and their interest in investment­s to improve their physical status to effectivel­y play their role, as well as the extent to which laws and legislatio­n on clubs are keeping abreast with the currently prevailing ones and their plans to improve and develop their roles.

It has also discussed their view of the trends and views on the privatisat­ion of sports clubs. RESEARCH PANEL MEETS: The Education and Research Committee discussed at its 8th meeting, establishm­ent of private training offices, training system to head education and draft study on knowledgeb­ased economy.

The meeting, chaired by Dr Abdullah bin Mubarak al Shanfari, Head of the Committee, was held in the presence of the committee members and State Council Vice-chairperso­n, Dr Suad bint Mohammed al Lawati.

The meeting discussed Suad’s proposal titled ‘Private Training Service Offices.’ The committee also discussed its proposal on developing the training system to head education and the committee’s draft study on strengthen­ing the role of education in supporting the knowledge-based economy.

During the meeting, the minutes of the committee’s previous meeting were validated, and the necessary work was discussed and decisions taken.
