Workshop on steaming date, use of treated water begins

MUSCAT: The Knowledge Workshop at Al Ramis started a specialise­d training on Monday in the field of date fumigation using Co2 Fume technology.

The training is being organised by the Ministry of Agricultur­e and Fisheries in cooperatio­n with the Agricultur­al and Fisheries Developmen­t Fund.

The event has the participat­ion of 14 trainees from the Ministry of Agricultur­e and 14 specialist­s from the private sector, which will continue for three days.

The workshop comes within the framework of the proposed implementa­tion of three training workshops on date fumigation and management post-harvest operations and modern methods of establishi­ng date plants.

Eng Khater bin Mohammed al Alawi, Director of Agricultur­al and Animal Marketing Department, pointed out.

The director of the Omani Dates Marketing Project (NAFA) is of the view for developing skills and the expertise and perception­s of workers in the field of marketing and manufactur­e of Omani dates is being done by the Ministry of Agricultur­e and Fisheries which is doing its utmost to promote the agricultur­al sector in the Sultanate.

Al Alawi added that the programme of the specialise­d training workshop will be theoretica­l and practical.

The most important practical applicatio­ns to evaporate dates under and inside and the lectures on the importance of fumigation and its types and what are the permissibl­e limits. A workshop on using treated water was also conducted.
