Sul­tanate needs a diet pol­icy to fight life­style dis­eases

Ac­cord­ing to Dr Ak­je­mal Mag­ty­mova, WHO Rep­re­sen­ta­tive to the Sul­tanate, sec­tors out­side health can make a cru­cial dif­fer­ence by en­abling health poli­cies to re­duce un­healthy diet, phys­i­cal in­ac­tiv­ity and to­bacco use.

She pointed out that NCDS are re­spon­si­ble for ap­prox­i­mately 70 per cent of total deaths in the coun­try.

Dr Ak­je­mal said that Oman is mov­ing to­wards the ‘Whole of the Gov­ern­ment’ ap­proach in its political com­mit­ment to achieve the NCD Global tar­gets by 2025 and the Sus­tain­able Devel­op­ment Goals by 2030.

The na­tional sur­vey was con­ducted to es­tab­lish a sur­veil­lance platform that col­lects base­line in­di­ca­tors on de­ter­mi­nants and the risk fac­tors and de­velop an es­sen­tial na­tional data­base for the NCDS.
