Indian Republic Day hockey fest on Feb 28

MUSCAT: The 71st Indian Republic Day hockey festival will be held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat on February 28.

The one-day hockey celebratio­n will be organised under the patronage of Indian Embassy in coordinati­on with the Oman Hockey Associatio­n (OHA).

The annual event will be organised by Team Coorg Muscat And Friends of Naqvi Group with cooperatio­n from UTSC Kerala Muscat for a 14th consecutiv­e year.

Indian Ambassador Munu Mahawar will preside as the chief guest and distribute the prizes and certificat­es. Mahawar will be given a guard of honour during the function.

BS Mehta, Managing Director of Muscat Pharmacy, and OHA Chairman Captain Talib al Wahaibi will be guest of honours.

The organising committee is headed by senior sports personalit­y SAS Naqvi, Osama Rawat and Bella Kuttappa assisted By Golaf Rahman.

The organisers recalled the contributi­on of Dr Hammad al Ghafri, presently the member of State Council, who has been a regular supporter of the event.

They also thanked the Ministry of Sports Affairs for the support in providing the venue and other facilities at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.

OHA Chief Talib also offered full support for the annual hockey gettogethe­r.

The sponsors for the event include Khimji Group, Al Ansari Group, Muscat Pharmacy, Bank Muscat, Future Group/ Future Plastics, Quality Printers, Roca, Al Omaniya Financial Services, Intisar Corporatio­n, Al Raha LLC, Oman United Insurance, Oasis Water and Pocarri.

The Indian School Seeb Choir will recite the national anthem for the opening ceremony.

Indian School Wadi Kabir band will perform march past.

Indian School Muscat relay team has been chosen for this years’ youth talent award.

The team, led by Antonio Biju, had won the relay in CBSE meet in Raipur, India.

Jancy Biju will conduct the national anthem competitio­n for boys and girls under-10 years. The certificat­es will be awarded to the winners after the competitio­n.

The highlight of the day will be hockey matches that will feature Oman Veterans XI, Team Coorg and UTSC XI who will compete for the Republic Day Cup for seniors.

In the Ambassador’s Cup, Indian School Seeb, Indian School Maabella, Indian School Al Ghubra and Indian School Wadi Kabeer will compete in boys and girls sections.
