Minister discusses ways to support low income people
MUSCAT: Shaikh Mohammed bin Said al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development, met on Tuesday at the Relief and Shelter Sector Operations Centre with several officials and representatives of charitable institutions and societies.
The meeting was attended by Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali, Undersecretary
of the Ministry of Social Development, Head of the Relief and Shelter Sector, and officials at the Ministry.
During the meeting, the Minister pointed out that there are redoubled efforts with the sector to support institutional isolation centres and assist those with low incomes – specially vendors and low-level professions - to meet their living needs because their livelihoods have been affected.
He said, “The social development committees play an important role in monitoring the requirements and needs of the citizens, especially those affected by the current circumstances and low income families. There is a different mechanism for providing that support to families and individuals in need, in addition to increasing the number of food baskets provided to some families, especially in the wilayats of Muscat and Muttrah”.
He emphasised that the Oman Charitable Organization is also making great and continuous efforts in providing support, whether for the wilayats of Muscat and Muttrah or other wilayats of the Sultanate.
On their turn, the representatives of charitable institutions and societies affirmed that they are continuing to provide support to the concerned authorities to overcome this stage that requires more solidarity between all institutions. They showed their support for all proposals and mechanisms that must be followed in agreement and coordination with the Ministry of Social Development, as well as setting a platform for charitable work that contributes to regulating charitable work in the society.
