Oman Olympic Academy to launch training courses remotely soon
The Oman Olympic Academy (OOA) will soon launch training courses remotely as part of the current situation’s requirement which did not allow any gathering of people in lecture rooms and meeting rooms due to coronavirus crisis. Ishaq al Balushi, Director of OOA, told Oman Daily Observer that the OOA is ready to begin the online courses.
“We are working closely with the information technology team to finalise the online methodology to have these programmes in a safe and secured platform. The online programmes will be through Microsoft teams application. After getting the approvals and completing the administration process, we will announce the registration mechanism through our official channels in the social media,” he added.
The OOA was launched in December 2018 at the premises of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) under the patronage of Shaikh Saad bin Mohammed al Saadi, Minister of Sports Affairs. The first year of the Academy registered organisation of courses and workshops on various academic and sports disciplines. More than 150 participants took part in the courses which provided 225 training hours.
On a query on which kind of the online training programmes will be provided, Ishaq responded: “We had many courses for this academic year to be done. We will begin remote courses on sports media programme which is supposed to be presented by a lecturer from Jordan University. She is not able to attend it due to the travel restrictions over COVID-19 pandemic.”
“However, we have almost finalised with a local lecturer to present this programme and all the details of the lecture will be shared with everyone through the e-newspaper and social media accounts,” he concluded.
The existing 2020 academic calendar of OOA began with a course on the ‘Modern management techniques in sports institutions’ in February. The course was conducted by Dr Ali bin Abdul Rahman al Bakri, Head of Sports Development Department at Qatar Olympic Academy. The rest of the courses for 2020 plan include the following topics: The modern sports training, modern sports marketing strategies, sports media, rehabilitation of the disabled in sports administration, sports injuries and recovery and financial management at the sports bodies.
The vision of OOA focused on developing human resources in sports in the Sultanate, upholding the Olympic values and philosophy. In addition, the academy is committed to provide the best and modern methods in various sports sciences to develop and qualify the top candidates in the sports institutions.
The OOA is keen to deliver top quality programmes by attracting good lecturers from the approved academies and universities.
