- KABEER YOUSUF @kabeeryousef

People have been urged to continue their precautions against the pandemic and help the state conquer the virus as the weeklong night lockdown came to an end, according to the Supreme Committee on Covid-19.

“From Saturday, the ban on movement of individuals and vehicles will be over and shops and stores can function from 4am till 8pm provided the number of people inside shouldn’t be more than 50 per cent of the capacity as part of controlling the coronavirus,” the Supreme Committee notification said.

Accordingly, entry to complexes, shops, restaurants, and cafes will be allowed to 50 per cent capacity only during the period allowed to receive customers.

However, delivery and takeaway services and food stores are exempted from the prohibition.

Government offices can resume work with 50 per cent of staff who are required to attend the workplace in the state’s administrative apparatus and other public legal teams. Employees who do not attend the workplace perform the work assigned remotely.

For private sector companies, which are otherwise to open from Sunday, are allowed to implement business continuity plans by working remotely and with a reduced number of employees who are required to come to the workplace.

“Safety of the public is the responsibility of all the people, both citizens and residents, and all parties should continue to take necessary precautionary and preventive measures to prevent the spread of the disease and follow up on everyone’s commitment to them. One needs to abide by the rules and regulations implemented by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and Public Prosecution, which are responsible for implementing its decisions and cracking down on the violators,” the Supreme Committee urged.

It may be noted that Supreme Committee SC on Covid-19 had praised the role of ROP and Public Prosecution, who are responsible for implementing its decisions and tracking down on violators.
