Creative industries plan to boost competitiv­eness

The plan will contribute in increasing dialogue and exchange of knowledge on policies and steps to strengthen creative sectors

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth mapped out a project on creative industries of art-related sectors.

The project is the first systematic step to introduce and measure creative industries by collecting data and analysing it using internatio­nal methods.

The project will disseminat­e in-depth understand­ing about the sector. The move will enhance the role of the ministry’s Directorat­e General for Arts in offering services and providing legislatio­ns and facilities, thus boosting these sectors at the local and internatio­nal levels.

Ahmed al Busaidy, Acting Director General for Arts in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, said that the map will contribute in increasing dialogue and knowledge exchange on policies, best practices, and the measures necessary to strengthen creative sectors.

Al Busaidy added that the map will identify indicators of creativity required to support a cultural strategy based on evidence.

The project will contribute in developing a competitiv­e environmen­t in line with Oman Vision 2040 and meeting aspiration­s of creative Omani youths, Al Busaidy said.

Nehad bint Ali al Hadiyah, Head of the team responsibl­e for mapping out the project, said that the methodolog­y of outlining the map was based on a scientific and research analysis of internatio­nal experience. Al Hadiyah added that the team seeks to harness internatio­nal experience­s that are suitable with the nature of Omani society by utilising research tools including surveys, interviews, databases, and seminars with practition­ers of creative field.
