YOUTH EMPOWERMENT AND OMAN VISION 2040

- AFRAH AL BALUSHI @afrahalbalushia

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT has emerged as a major element in the Oman Vision 2040 after the accession of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. One of the most important pillars of Vision 2040 is community participation, recommended by late Sultan Qaboos and followed by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. In Oman Vision 2040, youth is an integral part of the society, where the youth work with their ideas and aspirations for the future with the Vision Office and the working teams from different sectors associated with Oman Vision 2040.

All these are to ensure that the Sultanate of Oman stands among the ranks of the developed countries. The goal is to empower youth locally and internationally and support their contributions and initiatives in the development of the country.

With the Sultanate of Oman’s 2040 Vision, seven strategic goals have been identified, with the priority being the country’s youth.

The focus is on developing their skills and talents, building and empowering young leaders and specialised cadre who contribute to development, compete locally and internationally, create an environment conducive to innovation and entrepreneurship and establish emerging projects that contribute to the national economy.

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik confirmed at a meeting of the Council of Ministers held on October 12, the importance of finding mechanisms and channels of communication with the youth to clarify the requirements of the development process in various sectors and to listen to their aspirations and needs.

He instructed governors to hold periodic meetings with young people and discuss their issues and to help them perform their desired role in contributing to the building and comprehensive development of this dear country.
