Christian Radich ship wins Sultan Qaboos Sailing Award
MADRID: The Ministry of Defence, represented by the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO), conducted the award ceremony of Sultan Qaboos Sailing Award in Gran Canaria, on Sunday.
The Norway’s Christian Radich ship won the 10th edition of Sultan Qaboos Sailing Award for a history full of achievements in sail training. The award ceremony was held in conjunction with the celebrations of the 52nd National Day.
Omar bin Said bin Omar al Kathiri, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Kingdom of Spain, presided over the award ceremony which was attended by Commodore Tariq bin Issa al Raisi, Senior RNO Staff officer, a number of RNO personnel, officials from the Gran Canaria and stakeholders of sail training.
A number of public and private international maritime institutions were in contention for this year’s award.
The winner of the 10th edition of Sultan Qaboos Sailing Award was chosen at the annual International Sail Training Conference. The conference discussed the developments in sail training on the global level and reviewed lessons learned from the competitions organised by the Sail Training International (STI).
The Sultan Qaboos Sailing Award is one of the world’s most prestigious awards in the field of sailing which aims to promote sail training worldwide. It is awarded to the best institutions, ships or individuals for their services in the field of sail training.
