Oman football fans usher in World Cup opening

Hundreds of football lovers gathered at the Football Fan Festival at Oman Convention and Exhibition Center (OCEC) cheering and ushering the world’s biggest sports event as it opened in Doha on Sunday.

Three mammoth sized screens set in the artificial lawns of the OCEC brought the action live thanks to the arrangement with the bein Sports.

“Football Fan Festival is Oman’s most exciting football fan celebration, uniting local citizens, residents and overseas visitors through their shared love of the beautiful game while also showcasing Oman’s history, heritage, hospitality and stunning beauty,” a note from the organisers said.

Covering an area of more than 9,000 square metres, the fan festival offers something for everyone — from broadcasting all World Cup 2022 fixtures to creative activation, interactive games, innovative technologies, football competitions, live performances and an array of food and drink options to eat, play and watch for all the family.

Omran, the facilitator of the whole event has coordinated with various government entities and private corporates in making the event possible.

“We aim to support the global event by promoting Muscat as the satellite city to the Fifa venue and we are glad to be part of the steering committee that organised the Fifa event in Oman,” said Mohammed al Eisa from Omran.
