MUSCAT: Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Dr Mohammed bin Said al Ma’amari, Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, presided over the opening of Al Salam Mosque in the Wilayat of Bausher, on Monday.
The minister stressed that His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik accords a great attention to mosques and religious institutions, praying for the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said for his contribution to the construction of the mosque.
Built to modern standards and the best engineering and technical specification, the new mosque is constructed on a 13,139 sq metre plot. The main prayer hall has a capacity to accommodate 1,740 worshippers and the other prayer hall, dedicated to female worshippers, can accommodate 882 worshippers.
The mosque’s other facilities include a two-storey multi-purpose hall, an accommodation for Imam and stores. The mosque is equipped with modern sound, surveillance and IT systems.
Al Salam Mosque is the first in the Sultanate of Oman that uses solar energy. A total of 216 photovoltaic panels can produce 14,500 kilowatt-hour of electricity.
The mosque is located on the side of Muscat Expressway in the Wilayat of Bausher in the Muscat-bound direction from South Al Batinah Governorate.
