Seeb Warriors clinch ISC volley title

MUSCAT: Seeb Warriors clinched the title in the Indian Social Club (ISC) Volleyball Championsh­ip 2022 after beating UFSC Muscat 2-1 in the final recently.

The 2022 ISC Volleyball Championsh­ip presented by Purshottam Kanji Exchange Co LLC was held on November 18 at Al Ahli Club Darsait. Nine teams competed for the ever-rolling trophy sponsored by Al Raka Trading Co LLC.

It is the largest championsh­ip held in Oman by the expatriate community as the top seeded players from Oman, Pakistan and India participat­ed in this tournament which was divided into two groups.

The tournament began with top-seeded team Al Raka Trading facing UFSC Muscat at 10 am in the morning. Following the opening match, the teams Seeb Warriors, Charva Eleven, DB Champs, Oman Strikers, Malabar Warriors, Nizwa Friends and Muscat Super Strikers played their league matches. All the league matches played with a score of 21, 21 and 15 and the semifinals and final played with best of 3 sets of 25, 25 and 15. All the teams displayed best of their play and four teams advanced to the semifinals and the championsh­ip matches held same day from 6 pm.

Al Raka started off a little nervously, but after some really good rallies they gained confidence, which was shown through the great services and powerful smashes. UFSC outplayed with smart movements and smashes made the final set in their favour and emerged as winner of first semifinal with scores 25-17, 23-25 and 15-9.

In the second semifinal, Omani team Seeb Warriors thrashed Malabar Warriors with some terrific attacks and excellent movements scoring 25-13 and 2516.

In the final, Seeb Warriors and UFSC displayed an outstandin­g volleyball show and the crowd enjoyed every moment of the game. Seeb Warriors were very consistent throughout the event and the confidence level was very high. UFSC defence forced them ample errors in the first set to claim victory by the opponents in the first set scoring 26-25. However, UFSC played an outstandin­g game in the second set with their attacking style to bring the second set in their favour scoring 25-16. Seeb Warriors was impeccable throughout the set and the home ground helped them to turn the final set in their favour to emerge as champions with a score of 15-13.

Sanoj Sajjad was adjudged as the best attacker whereas Abu Ghazi as the best setter and Shyam as the best all-rounder. Ajay Ghosh National Referee,

Volleyball Federation of India, supervised the tournament with the support of Vijay Rajkumar, referee with Kerala State Volleyball Associatio­n.

Jose Varghese Kerala state referee, former volleyball players Saji John, Manoj Francis and Goutham assisted them in conducting the tournament smoothly.

The trophies and cash prizes were distribute­d to the winners by Karanjeet Singh – ISC Vicechairm­an, Babu Rajendran – General Secretary, Saji Abraham - Sports Secretary and Sanjit Kumar- Joint Sports Secretary. Ever rolling trophy sponsored by Al Raka Trading LLC was handed over to Seeb Warriors by Nikin Shajahan — Managing Director of Al Raka group of companies.
