WHO chief praises Ministry of Health

On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, HH Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmood al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers received Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu­s, Director-general of the World Health Organizati­on (WHO), in Muscat on Thursday.

The WHO Director-general is currently visiting the Sultanate of Oman to attend the 3rd Global High-level Ministeria­l Conference on Antimicrob­ial Resistance. Dr Tedros expressed his sincere sentiments and best wishes of success to Oman’s leadership and government.

HH Sayyid Fahd expressed the Sultanate of Oman’s appreciati­on to the role of the WHO in enhancing communicat­ion and providing top-notch services. He also underscore­d Oman’s backing of countries’ policies in the health field. HH Sayyid Fahd affirmed that Oman accords attention to providing all necessary means to ensure the health of citizens and residents alike. He also lauded the Ministry of Health’s role in implementi­ng programmes on protection against diseases and antimicrob­ial resistance.

They reviewed means of enhancing cooperatio­n between the Sultanate of Oman, represente­d by the Ministry of Health, and the WHO in fields of healthcare, treatment services and controllin­g diseases. They also reiterated the importance of exchanging expertise.

In his turn, the Directorge­neral of the World Health Organizati­on (WHO) expressed the WHO’S appreciati­on for the efforts exerted by Oman in developing health services which positions it at a prominent rank in the health field. He also lauded the care and attention accorded to Omani citizens within the framework of sustainabl­e developmen­t. He added that the WHO is willing to provide the Sultanate of Oman with its expertise and capabiliti­es in the health field. The meeting was attended by Shaikh Al Fadhil bin Mohammed al Harthy, Secretary-general of the Council of Ministers and Dr Hilal bin Ali al Sabti, Minister of Health.
