Fahd receives FAO Director-general
On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, HH Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmood al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers on Thursday received Dr Qu Dongyu, Director-general of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), who is currently visiting the Sultanate of Oman. The guest expressed his greetings and best wishes of continuous success to the leadership and government.
After welcoming the guest, HH Sayyid Fahd expressed the appreciation of the Sultanate of Oman for the FAO role represented in coordinating cooperation among countries. The FAO role aims to improve agricultural and fish production in an endeavour to provide food needs for people and improve their standard of living, support the setting up of agricultural projects and industries, and maximising the use of natural resources.
HH Sayyid Fahd underscored the importance of the FAO continued programmes that aimed at ensuring global food security for the next stage and facing the challenges of the negative impact on food supplies for many countries.
The meeting touched on ways to consolidate cooperation and partnership between the Sultanate of Oman represented by the
Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources and the FAO, in a manner that contributes to the programmes implemented by the government to develop human and natural resources in various sectors, especially agriculture and fisheries, within the framework of the sustainable development plan.
On his turn, Dr Qu Dongyu, FAO Director General, expressed his thanks to the Sultanate of Oman for its continuous support to the organisation, which enables it to implement its programmes to advance the fields of agriculture and fisheries development. He commended Oman’s many achievements that contributed to providing a decent life for citizens. He affirmed that the organisation aspires to achieve more cooperation and strategic partnership with Oman in order to establish agricultural and fish farming projects.
The meeting was attended by Shaikh Al Fadhl bin Mohammed al Harthy, Secretary-general of the Council of Ministers and Dr Saud bin Hamoud al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.
