Liwa residentia­l city to open today

HH Sayyid Belarab bin Haitham al Said will preside over the opening of the model residentia­l city in the Wilayat of Liwa today in conjunctio­n with the 52nd National Day anniversar­y.

The residentia­l city project is the biggest project of its kind undertaken by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning to relocate citizens affected by Sohar Port within the area stretching from Ghatfan township to the wilayat roundabout.

The project in Naber area includes schools, places of worship, a health centre, power generation stations, two filling stations, parks, playground­s, and lands for commercial establishm­ents such as malls.

The project includes 2,963 residentia­l plots on an area of 1,256 hectares and includes about 3,400 residentia­l homes that include projects for infrastruc­ture, roads and lighting.

The city will have a water supply network spanning a length of 133 km, a sewage network of a similar size, a 61km irrigation pipeline, electricit­y cables spanning 386 km, fibre optic cables measuring 201 km, and 41 km of pipes which will go towards rainwater drainage, as well as supplement­ary tanks to store water.
