The newly elected members of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) will elect the Chairman of the Board of Directors (BOD) and two Deputy Chairmen on Monday.

The elected members were advised to submit biodata and proposed projects and nominate the most suitable candidate for the said post by Sunday.

They were also asked to present for the introductory meetings for the Chairman candidacy of the BOD and his two deputies for the 2022-2026 tenure at the OCCI headquarters last Thursday.

Twenty-one members were elected from 125 contestants at the elections held on Tuesday. As many as 15,000 voters cast votes. For the first time, an expatriate got entry into the OCCI Board of Directors.

All the members presented their future plans and visions for managing the Chamber’s business for the said period at the Chamber’s headquarters to the Main Committee for the elections of the OCCI.

“We are to select the Chairman and Deputy Chairman to the BOD, and the meetings to this effect are new electoral practice in the history of the Chamber that allows candidates to present their electoral programmes and future visions to develop the work of the Chamber,” said Dr Saleh bin Said Masan, Under-secretary for Commerce and Industry at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MOCIIP), and Chairman of the Main Committee for the elections of the OCCI.

Nine expatriates had contested along with 116 Omani candidates in the elections to the Board of Directors of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) and to the BOD of OCCI branches.
