- STAFF REPORTER

The activities of Amad Duqm 22 are continuing in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, amid wide public interest and participation. A large number of people were keen to participate in youth events and activities in areas such as culture, sports, innovation, technology, sustainability and entertainment. The event is expected to attract large numbers of visitors during the 52nd National Day holiday.

The activities held at the event include observing the planets and celestial bodies and everything related to astrology. A special corner has been allocated to astrology. Commenting on the offerings of the corner, HH Sayyid Dr Faris bin Turki al Said, Director of Marketing at Astronomical Technology Trading Establishment, said, “This event is an opportunity for visitors to get to know astrology closely. Our beloved country abounds with clear skies and different terrains from north to south. This encourages astrology lovers to come to our observatory. The event is also an opportunity to encourage the public to think about the scientific and heritage side as well as the entertainment side of astrology.”

“You can follow stars sometimes with the naked eye but in other cases you need astronomical devices or lenses to help you discover things that cannot be seen with the naked eye,” he said.

Scouts and guides are taking part in the event as volunteers to guide visitors to the events and venues. They provide logistical support in all technical, organisational and administrative aspects. They also participate in presenting musical instruments and performances for visitors to the event.

“The participation of the General Directorate of Scouts and Girl Guides in the event is part of the community partnership and volunteer efforts of the members of the scout and guide movement. This also comes as an extension of previous participations in environmental and community service initiatives. It also comes as a continuation of the initiatives to provide logistical and field support in the various events in which we participated during the adverse climatic conditions and during the Covid-19 pandemic. This also comes as an affirmation of the scouting and guiding values and principles and based on the national duty to support the community in various fields,” said Khalifa bin Ali al Rawahi, General Supervisor of the Scouts and Girl Guides team participating in the Amad Duqm 22 Event.

The Sky Safari Oman paragliding team, led by Captain Jamal bin Khamis al Zadjali, presented shows that won the admiration of the audience. The gliders adorned the Duqm sky with the colours of the Sultanate of Oman’s flag and pictures of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.

“The team’s participation came to introduce visitors to this sport, which contributes to attracting domestic tourism to the Sultanate. Sky Safari Oman for gliding includes a group of pilots, trainers, and an experienced ground crew that won great appreciation from the authorities supervising the Amad Duqm 22,” said Al Zadjali.
