Renowned Indian playback singer Manjari will be the guest of honour at the Indian Social Club Oman’s Open Music Competition grand finale to be held on January 27 at the Oman Auditorium of Al Bustan Palace, A Ritz Carlton Hotel.

The culmination of the week-long singing contest, open to all in various categories, will be conducted in the presence of luminaries from both India and Oman and will last for nearly three hours.

The competitions will be held in different categories, including classical vocal, light vocal, duet vocal, group songs, wind instruments, string instruments, and percussion instruments and will commence next week at the ISC Hall in Darsait.

“We are expecting a large number of participants from across the Sultanate who have proved their skills in singing and playing instruments. This is open to all and we are confident to recognise some best musicians from the Sultanate,” organisers of the event said.

“Since the competition is aimed at tapping amateur talent, professionals in this field are not eligible to participate. However, professional musicians may accompany the participants,” Shakeel Komoth, representative of the ISC, told the Observer.

All above categories will be held in different categories, such as 5 to 8 years, 9 to 12 years, 13 to 17 years, and 18 years and above. However, group songs and duet vocals will be held in the open category only.

Organisers further said that a minimum of 6 entries per category in each age group is required for the particular event to be conducted and there has been an overwhelming response as the cut-off date for submission of entries was January 15.

“Indian Social Club Oman Rolling trophy will be awarded to the highest scoring ISC Linguistic wing. The scores will be taken from participants of any category representing the Wings which are placed in any of the top three positions,” he said.
