His Majesty’s visit to Iran sets the stage for economic partnerships

- Ali Rashed Al Matani ali.matani2@gmail.com

The visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to Iran marks a significant milestone in the strong and enduring relationship between Oman and Iran, particularly in political and economic spheres.

The relations between the two countries has been maintained throughout the stages of conflicts in the region that were unmatched worldwide, and which the region has gone through for half a century.

However, despite the disagreements, the ties between the two countries have remained strong.

The Sultanate of Oman has remained neutral to whom the opposing countries turned for peace whenever conflicts with Iran escalated. This took place during a time of bitter strife fuelled by contrasting ideologies and competing objectives, for which the region’s governments paid an enormous price in terms of fatalities and so on.

This had an impact on the wealth and stability of these countries, as well as a buildup in weapons on both sides at the price of growth and the economy.

The evolution of these relations, as well as the return to their senses in terms of recognising the reality on the ground and analysing situations with the balance of reason and wisdom that Oman has championed for the past 50 years, gives satisfaction.

This implies that, rather than fighting and conflict, nations’ geographical neighbours are handled through relations, bridge building, and development, and that the winners of such battles are the biggest losers.

Perhaps these presidential reciprocal visits represent the growth of these ties, overcoming all of the challenges and crises that the region has encountered.

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s visit laid the groundwork for a stronger future collaboration with Iran.

It advances Omani-iranian collaboration and connections, which are vital on several bilateral, regional, and international levels.

This partnership also marks a new turning point in cooperative efforts, particularly following the detente of relations between the countries and developments in the world; which necessitates a great deal of consensus among countries, as well as a greater understanding of the political, military, and economic conditions that impose dealing with greater responsibility following periods of conflict in the region.

The visit of His Majesty the Sultan was the result of a follow up visit by Iranian President Dr Ibrahim Raisi to the Sultanate of Oman.

Additionally, the visit consolidated the burgeoning relationships at several levels. The two sides inked memorandums of understanding and agreements in oil, gas, agriculture, and fish.

The economic cooperation between the two nations is critical at now and future phases. It promotes global collaboration, enhances interdependence of interests, and reflects the political connections between two neighbouring nations, as well as the phases of growth experienced in recent years.

We hope that economic links between the two countries improve since bilateral ties will benefit both peoples. It is also hoped that Oman’s investment climate is capitalised to the point where trade exchange value exceeds the present figures.

The private sectors of both countries are expected to maximise the benefits of this engagement in accordance with the Omani-iranian agreement.

HIS MAJESTY’S VISIT LAID THE GROUNDWORK FOR A STRONGER FUTURE COLLABORATION WITH IRAN. IT ADVANCES OMAN-IRAN COLLABORATION WHICH ARE VITAL AT SEVERAL BILATERAL, REGIONAL, AND INTERNATIONAL LEVELS
