The Oman Volleyball Association (OVA) signed agreements with seven local clubs to establish players’ training centres across the Sultanate of Oman. The signing function took place on Monday at the headquarters of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) in presence of Basil bin Ahmed al Rowas, Under-secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth, Eng Ibrahim al Maqbali, Chairman of OVA, and representatives of the clubs.

The seven clubs who signed the deals were: Al Bashayer, Al Salam, Seeb, Sohar, Saham, Qurayat, and Majees. OVA chairman signed on behalf the OVA with each of the club representative.

Establishing volleyball training centres in domestic clubs is part of the ministry initiative to support the sports associations and committees to focus on the junior faces and develop the potential players from clubs to represent the national teams.

The signed agreements also targeted to boost volleyball through domestic clubs and provide a suitable practicing place at the club headquarters.

DEVELOPING JUNIOR TALENTS

Basil bin Ahmed al Rowas appreciated the efforts taken by OVA towards ensuring this number of clubs to have the training centres. “The ministry is working closely with the sports associations and committees to involve them in developing the junior candidates in different sports. There is focus to develop the talented faces in different sports and ensure presence of top candidates in the national teams. We hope to see athlete centres that are full of the potential players with a comprehensive plan for their technical improvement,” he said.

INTERNATIONAL STANDARD

Eng Ibrahim al Maqbali, OVA Chairman, said that these centres will start with junior ages in order to form strong national teams in under-17, under-19 and under-21 age categories as per the international standard.

“There is a plan to organise an internal competition for these centres. The top centres may participate in the official competitions of the OVA to compete with the other clubs,” he added.

“As per the agreement, the OVA in coordination with the ministry will support the domestic clubs to provide transportation allowance, monthly coach salary and the sporting tools and equipment. There is an appointed coach to supervise the junior national teams. Another coach will be appointed soon to monitor the progress of all the volleyball training centres across the Sultanate of Oman,” he concluded.

Rashid al Hashmi, Chairman of Al Bashayer club, said that this training centre will assist the club to prepare and develop their young players who can join the national teams in the future.

“In Al Bashayer club, there are many volleyball players and this is one of the favourite sport. We are very pleased with the selection of Al Bashayer among the clubs and will work closely with the OVA to ensure graduating of proper candidates from this club,” he said.
