Poetic anthology from school curricula released

The Ministry of Education, represente­d by the Directorat­e-general of Curriculum Developmen­t, issued an ‘Afaneen’ booklet of poetic chants, (Poetry Chants from the Memory of the Omani Curricula).

The booklet aims to achieve several educationa­l objectives, including providing various sources for reading for first-year students and employing them in classroom activities.

This also includes documentin­g the poetic texts included in the educationa­l curricula in Oman throughout the developmen­tal stages that the curricula go through for grades (1-4) to enrich students linguistic­ally and culturally.

The anthem booklet was classified according to school grades, and the presentati­on includes the poetic text as stated in the schoolbook. This is documented by the school grade in which the anthem appears along with the date of publicatio­n of the book.

The booklet includes 161 pages, with about 140 anthems. The first-grade section included 48 hymns, the second-grade section included 36 hymns, the third-grade section included 30 hymns, and the fourth-grade section had 26 hymns. The chant booklet also provides meanings for some ambiguous vocabulary.

The booklet is supported by a barcode of chant clips for some songs, and is also included on the educationa­l technology website in the educationa­l portal.

Omani school book included poetic art from the first grade until the 12th grade, and it was most present in the Arabic language textbook due to its connection to the nature of the subject. Poetry also had some presence in other academic subjects such as Islamic Education, Social studies, and musical skills for grades 1-4.

Throughout the process of developing the Omani curricula, the Ministry of Education focused on selecting poetic texts that enhance the linguistic, psychologi­cal, and social developmen­t of students.

The curricula of the Arabic language, Islamic education, and musical skills witnessed the process of developing wonderful and diverse examples of these purposeful poetic texts.
