‘Share the Pride’ campaign highlights outstanding SMES

- AFRAH AL BALUSHI @afrahalbalushia

The Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ASMED) launched a campaign ‘Share the Pride in Ramadhan’ to highlight outstanding small Omani companies.

“We continue to highlight the products and services provided by small and medium enterprises for the sustainability of this sector. We also continue to support them in innovative ways through the available media because of their effective role in the marketing process,” said Moosa bin Khamis al Balushi, Director of Communications and Media at the Authority.

One such SME is Al Sawari Factory, which is the first factory in the Sultanate of Oman to make ropes used in the marine sector. It produces approximately 312 tonnes of ropes annually using highquality raw materials.

Mohammed bin Salem al Mukhaini, owner of the project, said, “The factory is a specialised Omani institution run by Omani staff and we manufacture ropes using polyester, polypropylene and polyethylene.” The products of the factory, which is located in the Madayn industrial zone in Sur, Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, are subjected to quality tests before being delivered to the consumer. The products are certified by the British Classification Authority.

Such projects seek to create job opportunities for young people. The Sultanate of Oman is working to Omanise jobs in the industrial zones and oblige all investors and companies in the industrial zones to raise the Omanisation percentage to no less than 80 per cent, which is among the conditions set by the industrial zones to achieve the goals of Oman Vision 2040.

Industries play an important role in supporting and diversifying the national economy, and the industrial sector is considered one of the basic foundations on which economic development in the Sultanate of Oman is based.

Furthermore, local added value is considered one of the most important tools for implementing the 2040 Industrial Strategy. The project is to enhance local added value in the manufacturing sector, increase local manufacturing opportunities, enhance the purchasing power of the national product and related services, raise the efficiency of national cadres, make use of Omani competencies and create job opportunities for citizens, which will contribute to the development of the manufacturing sector.
