ROHM welcomes Syrian ensemble for Ramadhan concert series

-

The Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) continued its Ramadhan concert series with a divine concert from the renowned Syrian ensemble, the Malawiyyin and Levantine Religious Chants Group, in tandem with Khalid al Araimi, an Omani chanter of great note.

The Ramadhan series, which started on March 18 and will run until April 1, is designed to offer respectful evenings of sacred prayer that inspire devotion.

Over 300 people joined last night’s concert, experiencing firsthand the incredible talent of The Malawiyyin and Levantine Religious Chants Group. Conceived in 2014 by a group of four musicians known as the Damascus Quartet, the group is comprised of leading musicians, who have carved their “Inshaad” journeys through different experiences and with diverse backgrounds. The combined energy and talent of Mahmoud Al Siad, Mohammed Shafik Al Chaar, Ghassan Al Srouji Kanani, and Mustafa Al Sheikh gave rise to the larger group, drawing the best chanters and musicians, with their aim to create an incredibly high standard of performance. Their presence on stage at the opera house gave rise to a sincere concert, which was both profoundly touching and exquisite in its execution.

Focused on cultural collaboration between Oman and Syria, ROHM welcomed Oman’s most inspiring chant performer, Khalid al Araimi. Originally from Sur, al Araimi began chanting in school and has continued to develop the art with instruction, performing across the region at public events to celebrate “Inshaad” and religious devotion. His presentation inspired considerable pride in the culture and history of “Inshaad” within the Sultanate of Oman, offering a new generation of chanters an example of dedication and talent.

The final concert in the Ramadhan series will feature renowned Egyptian artist Ali El Helbawy and Sami al Subhi of Oman and will take place on Monday, April 1. The concert will be held at the Royal Opera House of Musical Arts.
