Radio shows help listeners to spend time in Ramadhan positively
People who spend a lot of time driving their cars find time for radio. Some eagerly await their favourite programme, while others tune in to programmes while driving to work or home or running errands.
Radio serves as a source of entertainment and knowledge and plays a vital role in the lives of youth during Ramadhan. It offers a variety of programmes tailored to them, addressing contemporary issues directly and engagingly. These programmes cater to diverse interests and needs of young people.
Oman’s Englishlanguage radio provides a range of diverse programs targeting all listeners, Muslims, and nonmuslims alike. Many of these diverse programmes have a special Ramadhan spirit, aiming to touch the hearts of listeners during this holy month.
Among these programmes is “We Fast Together, We Pray Together,” which discusses various aspects of social and religious life during Ramadhan. Presented by Shaikh Hatim al Abdulsalam and Ahmed al Busaidy, this programme stands out for providing a unique atmosphere by the dialogue and interaction among listeners.
Her Highness Sayyidah Mayya al Said’s inspiring and motivational show “Love Your Life,” aims to inspire listeners to live a life closely connected to Allah. It is one of the essential shows that young people listen to during Ramadhan.
Another notable show is “Muscat Candid,” known for its diversity, allowing listeners to ask questions and participate in the programme via Whatsapp. It also covers various entertainment news and interviews with different authors.
Competitions and games are an integral part of Ramadhan radio programmes. “Night Time Drive” hosted by Yousef al Taee combines artistic and entertainment elements, featuring interviews with individuals with various skills, entertaining competitions, and purposeful discussions that captivate listeners.
The radio also offers pre-recorded shows like “Knowing Your Religion,” presented by Shaikh Dr Kahlan bin Nabhan al Kharousi, the Assistant Grand Mufti of Oman. It discusses Islamic values and principles for a full hour every Friday at 2:10 pm. Another programme by Dr Kahlan titled “Seeking Guidance” airs every Monday and on Wednesday at 5:00 pm, focusing on finding inner stability through the teachings of Islam.
Shaikh Dr Hatim al Abdulsalam’s show “Road Map,” is a heartfelt dialogue with the audience, airing every Friday and on Saturday at 1:14 pm. It looks at some concepts and ideas from the Quran.
“Insights on Being” by Mutasim al Sharji discusses the relationship between philosophy and religion. It is aired every Sunday and on Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
“Future Fantasy,” hosted by Ali al Shihi, blends musical pieces from various countries with English-language poetry composed by the host, and is broadcast every day at 11:00 am for an hour.
Amar al Naimi presents various vignettes reflecting Omani traditions and heritage, in a show called “Majan Chronicles.” It is aired every Monday and on Thursday at 11:00 am for 20 minutes.
Talal al Shuhry, Director of Foreign Channels in Ministry of Information, said what distinguishes this programming season, “This programming season shows again the strength and presence of Omani youth, with almost all shows being hosted by young talented Omanis representing all facets of the Omani community.”
