Registrati­on opens for Strategic Research Programme

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has approved the budget airline, Fly Jinnah, to operate flights from two Pakistani airports. Starting from May 2, the airline gets approval to operate three weekly flights between Karachi and Muscat and two weekly flights between Muscat and Islamabad.

Fly Jinnah or FJ is the lowcost carrier (LCC) owned and operated jointly by Lakson

Group of Pakistan and Air Arabia Group of the United Arab Emirates.

The airline is based in Karachi and currently serves five domestic destinatio­ns. The airline started domestic flight operations on October 31, 2022, when its first flight took off from Jinnah Internatio­nal Airport in Karachi and landed at Islamabad Internatio­nal Airport in Islamabad. The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MOHERI) along with the Ministry of Agricultur­e, Fisheries and Water Resources has announced the opening of registrati­on of the Strategic Research Programme until April 30, 2024 in accordance with the approved research priorities of the participat­ing government agencies.

The Ministry of Agricultur­e, Fisheries and Water Resources has announced this year’s researchch­allengesas‘preserving Omani frankincen­se trees and enhancing their products’ added value’, ‘Enhancing inputs in the production of alternativ­e and concentrat­ed animal feed’, ‘Finding effective alternativ­es to fish meal in fish feed for farmed organisms’, ‘The geography of food and its impact on food safety and quality in the Sultanate of Oman’, and ‘Rainfall water harvesting and maximising its benefits” for the various sectors of the ministry.

The evaluation of research proposals is based on the criteria of research excellence, the criteria for linking to institutio­nal challenges, the impact of the research outputs and their applicabil­ity, with the priority be given to research proposals and projects that serve a set of national priorities. flights in October 2023, Fly Jinnah was permitted by the Pakistani government to operate internatio­nal routes to Afghanista­n, Bangladesh, Iraq, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates. Last week, Fly Jinnah opened its second internatio­nal route connecting Lahore with Sharjah, a month after its inaugural flight from Islamabad to Sharjah.

The Strategic Research Programme aims to focus on national priorities to find scientific and applied solutions through competitiv­e research proposals, enhance constructi­ve cooperatio­n between the parties to the research system (government­al, academic and private sectors), and make recommenda­tions to create or update policies, legislatio­n and general procedures.
