Oman’s exhibition sector witnesses 141% increase in 2023
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MOCIIP) has revealed substantial growth in Oman’s exhibition sector, with a significant 141 per cent surge recorded in 2023 compared to the previous year.
Statistics released by the Licencing Department underscore the sector’s vibrancy and diversity, with a total of 241 exhibitions held across the Sultanate of Oman.
These exhibitions span a wide range of themes, including specialised sectors, festivals, conferences, cultural showcases, national industries, Gulf products, charity initiatives, innovation, and commercial ventures.
The significant increase reflects the sector’s resilience and adaptability in catering to diverse interests and needs within Oman and beyond.
Ali al Maamari (pictured), Director of the Licencing Department, emphasised the role played by exhibitions in fostering economic growth, investment promotion, and tourism diversification. He highlighted how exhibitions serve as platforms for networking, showcasing goods and services, facilitating business transactions, and promoting cultural exchange.
Furthermore, the surge in exhibitions underscores Oman’s commitment to attracting international and regional events, aligning with its global commitments and economic objectives.
The ministry aims to continue supporting the exhibition sector to stimulate local economic development and encourage both domestic and foreign investment.
The regulations governing the organisation and management of exhibitions have been tailored to meet the evolving needs of the sector and provide necessary facilitation for exhibition organisers.
These regulations aim to encourage expansion and diversification of exhibitions while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and ethical practices.
Al Maamari outlined the licencing requirements, emphasising the importance of adherence to social insurance regulations, maintaining a fixed location for operations, and timely renewal of licenses.
He also underscored the ministry’s commitment to upholding integrity and transparency in the licencing process, with stringent measures in place to address fraudulent practices or misinformation.
