Ominvest successful­ly concludes second edition of football tournament

In line with its commitment to fostering community engagement and encouragin­g Omani young talents to improve their skills through sports, Oman Internatio­nal Developmen­t and Investment Company ‘Ominvest’ successful­ly organised the second edition of the Ominvest Football Championsh­ip.

The Ominvest Football Championsh­ip is designed to foster a culture of active participat­ion and cooperatio­n among employees across the Group’s companies.

The tournament featured 10 teams, divided into two groups. The first group features sports teams from Thawani Pay, Alizz Islamic Bank, National Finance (A), Liva Insurance, and NSSG.

The second group included Ominvest, Takaful Oman, Oman Arab Bank, Liva Insurance (A), and National Finance (B). Kicked off on March 17, the championsh­ip saw the top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals. With anticipati­on running high, the semifinal matches showcased thrilling competitio­n as the four teams competed for a spot in the final showdown.

Graced by Abdulaziz al Balushi, Group CEO, and attended by a number of executives and employees from the Group, the curtains drew to a close on Monday, April 1, marking the conclusion of the Ominvest Football Championsh­ip amidst a large audience at Al Amal Club.

Last year’s winning team, Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, was engaged in an exhibition match against the National Football Team Stars, adding thrilling vibes to the closing ceremony of this year’s championsh­ip.

In the final, the Oman Arab Bank team faced off against Liva Insurance (A). After a thrilling encounter, the Oman Arab Bank team won 3-2 on a penalty shoot-out after normal time ended in a draw of 2-2. As a result, Oman Arab Bank were crowned champions, while Liva Insurance (A) finished as runnersup.

The final match was filled with excitement as teams competed for victory, drawing enthusiast­ic crowds who passionate­ly supported their favourites. The Ominvest Football Championsh­ip matches are known for their suspense and thrill and this year was no exception.

In response to the event, Waleed al Yarubi stated, “We would like to congratula­te the winning team and wish all participat­ing teams the best in future tournament­s. We are also grateful to all participan­ts for their contributi­ons to making this event successful. Our main goal for organising these activities is to promote sports and employee engagement and we are confident that they will foster a stronger sense of unity and collaborat­ion across the Ominvest Group companies.”
