Professional translators to receive official IDS
MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, in collaboration with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), launched yesterday the Professional Cards for Translators initiative.
This aligns with the strategic direction of the ministry and the chamber, consistent with Oman Vision 2040, to improve and regulate the business environment, enhance competitiveness for specialised institutions, and highlight the importance of issuing professional cards for businesses. These cards include specific data about the institution, the licence to practice translation and the licence’s expiration date.
An agreement to collaborate on the initiative was signed by Dr Saleh bin Said Masan,
Under-secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Commerce and Industry, and Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, OCCI Chairman.
The chamber’s role includes designing a special programme for issuing translator ID cards and providing a designated cardprinting device while covering all associated financial costs.
The professional cards for translators will enhance the efficiency of regulating specialised translation institutions, help organise the labour market, and create a conducive environment for employing job-seekers in these specialties.
The cards will play a vital role in facilitating collaboration with related entities for these services.
