Oman’s food resources to be the highlight at Food Safety Week

A four-day intensive conference packed with workshops, brainstorm­ing sessions and consumer awareness programmes, will be held as part of the Oman Internatio­nal Food Safety and Qualities Conference at the Mövenpick Hotel Azaiba on April 29.

The Food Safety Week, to be held under the auspices of Dr Saud bin Hamoud al Habsi, Minister of Agricultur­e, Fisheries and Water Resources, offers a platform for scientific discussion­s, working papers and panel discussion­s.

A number of ministers and high ranking officials will be sharing their views on food safety and how to prepare for future where supply of resources may fluctuate.

There will be a public marathon at the Qurum Natural Park highlighti­ng the importance of a healthy lifestyle and remaining physically fit. Sessions include tips for leading a more active and healthy lifestyle and it will be a competitiv­e sporting event that attracts one and all besides the athletes, adults and children to the mega marathon.

“This year’s Food Safety Week aims to address various themes, managing food risks for food security, ever-evolving challenges in the field of food safety and quality, the role of food safety and quality in promoting sustainabi­lity in the economic sector and the role of Artificial Intelligen­ce and modern technologi­es in food safety,” said official from the Director General of the Food Safety and Quality Centre at the ministry.

The activities of May 1 will be honoured by the presence of His Highness Sayyid Fahr bin Fatik al Said, His Highness Sayyid Firas bin Fatik al Said who will be interactin­g with the public on food safety.

An elaborate session for food risk assessment is scheduled to attract expert thoughts and share experience­s of other nations and take stock of the potential risks of both locally sourced foods and imported food materials.

There will be sessions to implement specialise­d workshops in the areas of risk assessment for food sector specialist­s, risk assessment, good practices in fish farming, laboratory forum and a technical competitiv­e event that attracts a group of experience­d and talented individual­s to find innovative technical solutions to some of the challenges in the field of food safety and quality.

On May 2, teams from the ministry would educate shoppers about healthy purchasing methods and steps to follow, their rights and duties while purchasing at the commercial outlets and the session will be held at the Avenues Mall in Bausher.
