Al Harrasi claims silver in 100m at Marrakech Paralympic

Oman’s Tah al Harrasi snatched the silver medal in the 100m race on the opening day of the Paralympic Grand Prix Athletics Championsh­ips in Marrakech, Morocco. The event is held from April 26 to 29, under the supervisio­n of the Paralympic Committee.

Al Harrasi managed to reach second place in the 100m after completing the race distance in 12.52 seconds, while Malaysian Mohamed Buzi took first place after completing the race distance in 12.65 seconds.

The national team para athletes including Taha al Harrasi and Mohammed al Mashaiki, under the supervisio­n of coach Sonia Mustafa, were in the training preparatio­n to take part in the long jump competitio­ns. The participat­ing delegation also includes physiother­apist Hani al Shamakhi and the delegation is headed by Adnan al Owaidi, a member of the Omani Paralympic Committee.

Al Owaidi, head of the delegation participat­ing in the competitio­ns, said that the competitio­n is strong and the national team player’s silver medal in the 100m is a good start and we look forward to the results continuing in the upcoming competitio­ns to achieve qualifying numbers.

major events in the calendar of the Internatio­nal Paralympic Committee as it is a qualifier for the next Paralympic Games in France in 2024. The players participat­ing in this championsh­ip were chosen based on the qualifying numbers they obtained in previous competitio­ns, adding that the championsh­ip is attended by 64 countries from around the world, with more than 400 players competing in various classifica­tions.

Coach Sonia Mustafa indicated the readiness of the players to compete and win first place.
